Dotted uranium ants

Hypoponera punctatissima

Appearance:

With a size of 2 mm and reddish-brown coloration, this ant is rather inconspicuous. It has a sting and the first two segments of the abdomen are constricted.

Reproduction:

Practically nothing is known about reproduction.

Way of life:

They do not make trails and prefer to feed on springtails. They are rarely seen outside as they hunt live prey.

Swarming behavior:

Dotted great ants swarm all year round and are often found in drawers.

Nesting cake:

Damp places are preferred. The ants can be found in large numbers in the bathroom, in the kitchen, but also on foundations. A nesting site under the bathtub or behind loose tiles is not uncommon.
