Field mouse

The 20-55g heavy and 12-18 cm large field mouse has a stocky, clumsy build. Its tail is 1/3 of its body length.

The reproductive field mouse gives birth to 3-8 young per litter, in 10-15 litters per year. The gestation period of only 3 weeks and the sexual maturity of the young after only 2 weeks of life ensure large populations.

Cultivated land, meadows and pastures are preferred. Field mice feed mainly on young plants, but also on fruit tree bark and planted fruit and vegetables.
