Lemon ants

Acanthomyops claviger

Appearance:

The lemon ant can be light yellow, reddish yellow or even light brown.
Workers are around 5 mm long, while swarmers are only 3 mm long. They have single-limbed antennae and sparse hair on the head, thorax and abdomen.

Reproduction:

Especially at the end of winter and in spring, the lemon ant, which is often mistaken for a termite, swarms out.

Way of life:

It spreads a slight lemon odor when crushed.
It mainly lives in forests, gardens and also on lawns near foundations. The nest entrance is indicated by an accumulation of loose soil.
