Arvicola terrestris

Appearance:

A body size of 12-22 mm and a tail of about 8 cm are characteristic of the vole. It weighs between 60-180g, has a plump body and a large, broad head.

Reproduction:

The gestation period is 3 weeks, which means that voles can give birth to 3-6 litters of 3-8 young per year. The young are sexually mature at 8 weeks.

Way of life:

Moist soils, vineyards and stream banks, but also gardens are preferred. This diurnal and nocturnal vole does not hibernate and causes burrowing and feeding damage. It swims and dives.
